” Autumn is a second Spring where every
leaf is a flower. “
I took a deep sigh today.
Did you hear it?
It’s the same sound you hear every October 1st.
It’s a sigh that cooler weather and “all things pumpkin”
have arrived.
It’s Fall Y’all.
And I could not be happier.
Fall is my season. I relish in it and my spirit
reawakens from a hot, long, Southern Summer.
I have been in a decorating bliss for days. I am very
excited to share my Southern Home –
dressed in Traditional Autumn splendor.
2015 Fall Home Tour
I have been sharing some incredible projects all
this week as part of the
” Fall in Love With Your Home” Tour.
Please make sure you check out all of the categories and
links below and visit all of these fabulous Blogs.
……………………………….
So I would love to invite you inside my home.
I must warn you – this post is picture heavy.
So grab some coffee or wine or whatever your fave
beverage may be…
(sweet iced-tea with lemon for me, please)
… and enjoy your visit.
I do have a confession, though.
Some of these pics are not all that great.
They were taken at 10am when it looked like
7pm outside. Pouring rain with the threat of a
Hurricane breathing down our backs. Oy.
So, I apologize.
Let’s start in the Foyer…
Our foyer is long and narrow, with half on one side
of the front door and the other half on the other side.
This antique chest and arched mirror sits on the right.
I hung my favorite Fall wreath on the mirror…
I also used one of my favorite Fall-themed containers…
A Spode Woodland Bread Box.
I filled it with dried magnolia leaves, a yellow mum, dried
hydrangea, mini pumpkins, gourds and berries.
I love taking this beauty out each Fall. It’s like a long,
lost friend I have missed for a whole year.
*( I LOVE this Spode Woodland Hunting Dogs Bread Box.)
Now let’s head into the Kitchen …
I made a Burlap and Galvanized Letter “Gather” Sign for
above the Farmhouse sink. I will share the full how-to next week.
Then, I added a simple ornamental kale to a
white, ironstone tureen…
On the opposite side of the kitchen…
(Note the cabinets STILL do not have any hardware.
More on that later!)
…I added another mum and a chalkboard sign
plus a white, ceramic pumpkin jar.
The little niche above also received a touch of Fall…
I used a lot of natural cuttings from my yard to fill
vases and containers. I especially love the dogwood leaves
this time of year. The leaves have a variety of Fall colors.
On the island… I filled another vintage scale with
an heirloom pumpkin on a bed of moss.
One of my favorite displays is this large, dough bowl
filled with pumpkins and gourds and grapevine.
All of these touches are simple and easy
to duplicate. If you have not noticed,
I like to combine a combination of real greenery and
pumpkins, with faux pumpkins and dried flowers and
faux leaves and berries. Using real makes the faux look
more realistic. And using faux makes the arrangements
last a little while longer.
*(Get your own rustic dough bowl.)
I love how the pops of orange make my Farmhouse Blue
and White Kitchen come alive for Fall.
I have also tucked in cotton balls soaked in a mixture of
the arrangements and my kitchen smells divine!
Now let’s head into the
Breakfast Room …
I am still so in love with the Board ‘n Batten treatment we
added to our kitchen and breakfast room. I can’t believe
how much lighter and whiter it makes the whole space.
Well, accept on dark, rainy days when a Hurricane
is approaching. LOL
A few weeks back, I shared an Easy Apple and Berry Wreath
update. The wreath hangs around Cleetus,
our Farmhouse pig.
The wreath received another new, more Autumnal update….
Cotton and berries and a pretty, multi-ribbon bow.
I will teach you this easy bow-making technique soon.
The cotton is actually a *wreath I simply attached and
fluffed the leaves around.
The blue and white soup tureen was filled with small
gourds and fluffy, green moss.
On the other side of the breakfast room table…
… my little blue chest boasts a Fall vignette featuring my
Last week, I shared my Farmhouse Style
I also included a little lesson for layering a Vignette.
Finally, let’s go into
the Living Room…
This is the room I had the most trouble photographing.
(well, accept the kitchen and foyer and breakfast room)
It’s an interior room and even on a nice, sunny
day its dark. My mantel is rather beautiful,
but it sure didn’t photograph well.
I added a Jacobean fabric to the back wall.
It’s such a beautiful print full of Fall colors.
Mr. Buck was happy to see me add black urns full of
twigs and leaves and dried magnolia leaves.
I am expecting to see him start munching on them
anytime now.
(I promise better pics soon)
A large reclaimed-wood tray sits on the hearth and is
filled to the brim with pumpkins and gourds and
dried hydrangea.
The table received two layers of fabric… more of the Jacobean print
that was on the fireplace wall…and a coordinating stripe.
Last year, I saw a wood box at Lowes priced higher than I was
willing to pay. So I made my own.
This wooden box is filled with a myriad of Fall lovelies..
and includes my fave – real NC cotton!
On the sideboard, Autumnfest continues.
A new set of antlers is hung above the print and holds a
sprig of fresh grapevine.
One of my husband’s pewter, college trophies holds
pheasant feathers, and a small silver dish holds acorns.
My beloved Pink and White Stafforshire Soup Tureen is planted
with mums, kale and has dried artichokes and heirloom pumpkins
tucked in. A fresh grapevine handle tops it all.
Last Christmas, I pulled up two large wingback chairs at
each end of the formal Dining Room table.
We love it.
And the cats fight over this space since I added this cozy,
Fall-colored cable-knit throw and leaf pillow.
(throw from Target)
So that’s it. At least, that is all I could get photographed.
I know, I know.
It was a looooong tour, huh?
I will share more details soon, and also share some
other Fall projects which I have been working on.
Join me on Monday for some
EASY Chocolate-Pumpkin-Nut Brownies.
Oh yea… I went there.
